ABOUT WHOLE GRAINS
At Sanitarium we understand that you want to make more informed decisions about the genuine nutrition of the food products that you buy. You may already use the nutrition information label to check the fat or sugar content of products that you buy. However, we understand that reading and understanding nutrition information label and ingredient lists can be confusing. That's why we have simplified the look of our nutrition information label, making them easier to read and understand. At Sanitarium, we want you to understand how to read nutrition labels on a product, so that you can use this information to ensure you and your family are getting the right nutrition.
Sanitarium supports a consumer centric nutrition labelling solution that is simple, clear and easy to understand and not reliant on complicated percentages. Sanitarium believes it is important to consider the quality of energy and nutrients in a product particularly in context of its whole food content including natural whole grain ingredients.
Currently other companies have introduced new labelling initiatives on front of pack on their food products. This scheme focuses on the quantity of the nutrition in a product and only offers a limited measure of the quality of that nutrition. That is, whether the product is made from minimally refined foods, and how extensively it has been processed. On its own, knowing the energy of a product isn't overly helpful unless we also know how processed the product is and if beneficial nutrients have been lost during refining or processing.
